Celebrate The First Christmas at The Great North Museum

To celebrate the first Christmas since its opening, The Great North Museum: Hancock will be coming alive with Great Jazz Christmas Celebrations, Roaring 1920’s Shared Party Nights and Stand-up Comedy Nights.

Paul Wield, sales manager, Great North Museum: Hancock says, “This is the first Christmas for The Great North Museum: Hancock and we will be celebrating in style.  Our shared party nights are superb value and guests will love the entertainment that we have lined up for them from great jazz classics to big band swing and award winning comedians.   We are catering for all budgets with our shared party nights with our great value bowl food and canapé receptions, which are all sourced from local suppliers.  The museum is the perfect venue for Christmas parties, dinners and networking events and we look forward to offering guests an unforgettable festive experience.

The ‘Great’ Jazz Christmas Celebration Shared Party Nights

Put a swing into your festivities this Christmas with our ‘Great’ Jazz Christmas Celebrations. Upon arrival guests will be treated to a sparkling cocktail and a selection of delicious canapés, including English ploughman’s with red onion compote and mini Yorkshire pudding with beef and horseradish, while they can enjoy jazz classics from the Jazz Kings, three of the coolest guys in town! 

Roaring 1920’s & 1930’s Christmas Celebration, Shared Party Nights

Jeff Parker Five, one the North East’s finest “little big bands” offers guests the very best in Swing.  This Christmas party package includes a sparkling cocktail drinks reception, delicious canapés, hot and cold bowl food and entertainment.  From 8.30pm, guests can enjoy a selection of bowl food including Caesar salad with garlic crouton, Thai green prawn curry with fragrant rice mixed greens topped with dried cranberries and walnuts and beef in brown ale sauce with root vegetables and a puff pastry lid followed by a pot au chocolate.  Guests will then be invited to join the Roaring 1920’s and 1930’s celebrations and charlston, foxtrot and waltz the night away.

One-off ‘Great’ Stand-Up Comedy Night
£29.95 inc. VAT, per person Saturday 20 December

Award winning comedians will be performing for one night at The Great North Museum including Tony Burgess and Dave Johns and compered by Vladimir McTavish.  From 8.30pm, guests can enjoy a selection of bowl food, including mushroom risotto with shaved parmesan, Caesar salad with garlic crouton, turkey a la king and pot au chocolate, served with a belly-full of laughs.

Exclusive Corporate Party Evenings

In addition to shared party nights, corporate party evenings are available throughout December for private hire with menus to suit all budgets.  From an additional £2 per person you and your guests can enjoy a Night at the Museum Party as our curators show you and your party around the museum and its exhibits.  For an extra £2.95 per person you can see a spectacular show of astronomy and the night sky in our Planetarium.

The Great North Museum: Hancock

The Great North Museum: Hancock opened in Newcastle this spring.  The £26 million building features the wonder and diversity of the natural world, spectacular objects from Ancient Greece, mummies from Ancient Egypt, a planetarium and a life-size T-Rex dinosaur skeleton. It also includes a large-scale interactive model of Hadrian's Wall, northern England's spectacular Roman frontier.

Conferencing and catering services for this new venue are provided by Sodexo Prestige.  The museum  features a large exhibition space of almost  500 sq meters, the Clore Learning Centre for  meetings  and receptions, café areas for evening entertainment and a Planetarium  for private viewings.   This fantastic new venue offers an inspirational setting for dinners, conferences, meetings and networking events and offers guests an unforgettable experience. The museum can be hired as a whole, accommodating up to 1,300 guests or as separate areas depending on the size and format of the event.
