Caterer Prestige Scotland are delighted to announce that in the first two weeks of trading at a spectacular new venue in Edinburgh, the new Gateway Restaurant has served a record 4000 customers. The restaurant has unveiled a selection of the delicious seasonal dishes being served at the Gateway Restaurant in the John Hope Gateway building which opened in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh earlier this month.

The Lunch menu includes a tantalizing selection of local dishes that include a mouth watering selection of starters: roast parsnip and butternut squash soup, chicken liver parfait served with a rhubarb and ginger jam with sour dough or Eyemouth crab served with a sweet and sour cucumber and radish salad, lemon and pepper dressing.

Main courses include; Poached Loch Duart salmon served with seasonal greens, heirloom tomato and herb potatoes alongside Confit duck leg, salardaise potatoes, leaf salad with cider vinegar dressing or choose the delicious Grilled “feather steak” which comes with red rooster chips, home dried tomato and a béarnaise sauce or Slow cooked lamb shoulder, “shepherds pie” with peas and carrots.

To finish, desserts will include a choice of delectable dishes such as chocolate and hazelnut brownie served with white chocolate ice cream, apple and bramble crumble drizzled with fresh custard, creme caramel with spiced poached Victoria plums or choose Scottish artisan cheese, tomato chutney and thick oat cakes. This is also available as a platter for two to share.alongside a similar offering of charcuterie or smoked salmon.

The John Hope Gateway is open daily from 9am at weekends and 09.30 during the week and offers a selection of breakfast dishes including a full Scottish selection, Ayrshire ham and eggs, Scottish smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on toasted brioche and stacked Scottish pancakes with either seasonal fruits and berries or grilled Ayrshire middle bacon smothered in maple syrup.  Lunch is served from 11.30 – 3.30pm daily and will change throughout the seasons. Starters are reasonably priced from £4.00, followed by mains starting from £8.00 and desserts from £4.50. In the later afternoon, a traditional Afternoon Tea is a sight to behold and will not fail to excite your taste buds. In addition there are cream teas and luxurious cakes washed down with speciality coffees and Twinings ritual teas.

Sunday lunch is an occasion for the whole family with a two or three courses including Sunday Roast available and plenty of options for the kids. Prices start at £12.00 for two courses.

The name of the new 120 seat restaurant ‘The Gateway’ takes its lead from the John Hope Gateway facility itself which commemorates RBGE's 18th century Regius Keeper, Professor John Hope, a leading botanist and teacher of his time who was also responsible for unifying the Garden at one site on Leith Walk. The new building offers visitors a facility where they can discover the world of plants, explore the scientific work that takes place at the Garden through a unique set of interactive experiences and activities. This pioneering and beautiful building provides a host of new opportunities and attractions for people of all ages and abilities. With the materials used, the various energy saving measures and renewable energy production, The John Hope Gateway is an excellent demonstration site for promoting sustainability in design and includes many demonstrable features such as a biomass boiler, rain water harvesting, a wind turbine, solar collectors and photovoltaic solar panels.
